There will be times when you cannot see the road ahead. But you have to trust that it is there.
We are about to embark on the “dark season”; the clocks have shifted back. That means that some people they are leaving for work in the dark and arriving home at the night as well. This is also the season where some folks may experience seasonal depression disorder (SAD). It’s nothing to be ashamed of; it’s actually quite common.
Whether prone to sadness during the winter months or not, it’s important to remember that when you are going through a difficult time, honestly try to focus on the present moment rather than spinning out in your mind of the “what-ifs” and “should-haves.” When you find yourself spinning out in worry, stop and breathe. Place your hands on your belly, inhale on a four-count, and exhale on a four-count.
Remember that you only need to place one foot in front of the other. Stay with the present moment. And do what you know works. Get up at the same time every day and go to bed at the same time every evening. Schedule your time on your yoga mat or at a fitness class. Eat as healthy as you can and drink water, lots of it.
Now is not the time to try anything new. Or overschedule yourself with activities that cause you stress. Now is the time to hold on to the healthy habits you have had in place but maybe lost sight of. You know this road. You’ve been on it before. Trust the process.
